Proposed Murrell Green Development

On July 22^nd 2026 a planning application was made to Hart District Council (application number 26/01201/OUT) to build 2,160 dwellings between Winchfield and Hook. This is roughly the same size of the current Hartley Wintney village and so will effectively destroy the green spaces that exist between Hartley and Hook resulting in coalescence of the two communities.

The Heritage Society believes this is inappropriate and represents gross over development of the area. The We Heart Hart website at  https://wehearthart.co.uk/ provides more detail and we encourage you to review this and the formal application and submit your own views.

60^th Anniversary Lunch - A very successful and enjoyable lunch attended by 60 Society members was held on the 25^th July to celebrate the 60^th anniversary of the Society. Full details will be included in next year’s Heritage Society Journal publication.

Autumn Meeting – will be held on Wednesday, 14 October – Victoria Hall at 7.30 pm.  Our guest speaker will give an overview on the history of the Basingstoke Canal.
 
Front Garden Awards - Judging for this annual award is now concluding. It has been particularly challenging this year due to the extremely hot summer and drought conditions that now exist. However the judges have continued diligently with their final activities  and announcements of the winning gardens will be made on the village noticeboards with formal presentations of prizes at the Society’s Autumn meeting on 14 October.

Hartley Wintney Village Festival - Thank you to the members who helped out at the Society's stall at the Village Festival on June 13th and to the many members of the public that visited us. We hope you took the opportunity to find out more about the Society and to look at the information on display. 

Front Garden Awards - Judging for this will be taking place between mid June and mid July with judges walking around the whole of Hartley Wintney village selecting the most attractive and enchanting front gardens. The final selection of gardens will be made by the end of July and they will then be announced on the Society and other village notice boards. Formal presentations will be made later in the year at the Society’s Autumn meeting.

Autumn Meeting – Wednesday, 14^th October – Victoria Hall.  Speaker to be announced in due course.

Member Meeting – A very well attended AGM and Spring Meeting took place on 13th May 2026 with guest speakers from the Campaign To Protect Rural England (CPRE) and we hope that members found the meeting both informative and interesting.

Village Festival – Saturday June 13^th. The Society will be present again at the festival this year and we look forward to meeting visitors to our stand between 12-5pm.

The Heritage Society 2026 Journal has now been distributed to all members via email. If you would like a professionally printed colour copy, they will be available to purchase from our village festival stall. All our other publications can be ordered via the Society website.

 Front Garden Award - Judging for this will take place between July and August when judges will be walking around the whole of Hartley Wintney village and as in previous years, there will be a prize for the most enchanting front garden and additionally for this year for the best floral conainer of hanging basket.

 60^th ANNIVERSARY LUNCH

The Society was formed in 1966 and we will be celebrating this with a members’ celebration lunch on Saturday 25^th July from 12.00pm in the Victoria Hall.

Tickets are only £30.00 each and full details will be posted on our website shortly
